HAVE YOU HEARD THIS ENOUGH TIMES ON YOUR F-LIST? THE ANSWER IS: NO.
Finished it, woo. :D
Um. Will refrain from saying anything cryptic/funny about the book in the benefit of those who haven't finished yet, since I know that's annoying. :( <3 HOWEVER, if you wish to discuss, FEEL FREE TO COMMENT, AND BEWARE SPOILERS, PPLZ.
All in all, I'm very glad I went straight from the sixth book to the seventh one. The end of the sixth book felt kind of... anticlimactic? Like, usually at the end of each HP book, the whole plot of that book is revealed, but in 6, that didn't happen, and everything was instead revealed at the end of 7, so I'm glad I read them in such close succession, and 7 was much more rewarding because of it. :D
The beginning of the book=OMFG ACTION ALREADY NO HEDWIG WHYYYYYYYYYYYY
The middle of the book=......Wtf this is so boring.
More of the middle of the book=Seriously, what is this forest camping crap, THIS IS SO BORING.
Towards the end of the book=HOLY BATMAN THIS IS GETTING AWESOME
Chapter 33=OH MY GOD THIS CHAPTER IS THE BEST CHAPTER EVER I AM GOING TO CRY SO HARD
The end=THIS IS STILL AWESOME
The epilogue=.....I hate Harry/Ginny and this is over the top so I'll take it with a grain of salt, in which case, AWWW SO CUTE
....I feel I will reread this entry later in life and be like "Why do you word Harry Potter entries so retardedly?"
My long-standing favorites have been Sirius, Lupin, and Snape since book 3 (which is still my favorite <3) but Harry really grew on me in these last two installments (even if he went back to being kinda whiny and emo through the middle of 7), and I was of course very disappointed about Snape ending up being a bad guy in 6, but I tried to hold on to some kind of faith that he wasn't going to be a bad guy in the end (after all, that would have been really anticlimactic after so many false accusations of him), so that chapter 33... man, that was so touching and amazing and sad. I hear that people are complaining that because Snape's motivations were all because of a childhood crush, it all therefore cheapens his character, but to me, the simplicity and childishness of it is what makes it so moving, especially considering how he outwardly acts. And although the epilogue felt tacked-on, that part where Harry is talking to his kid at the end and it shows how much he appreciates what Snape did killed me.
Yeah, so Lupin whined in the middle, but hey, he's a fucking werewolf, he's allowed to emo, and Harry kicked him back into place, so all was good. I was actually okay with him ending up with Tonks--I thought it was kinda cute at the end of 6, but why did Rowling had to kill off both of them? Their poor kid. D: (ROFL, Lupin pulled a HUGHES with the picture thing! ...And the dying thing. D:)
Sirius wasn't in either much, besides looking at his room, which was sweet, as well as reflection on his worse sides, which is also cool. I wish we'd seen more of his brother Regulus; he seemed like a compelling character from what we heard of him.
Speaking of compelling characters--or lack thereof--the only thing I really have to complain about is Voldemort's characterization, though I guess this pertains more to 6 than 7. I feel that as a villain, sure, he was evil and everything, and we knew his motivations, but even through all the flashbacks, I got more of an impression that he'd been born evil rather than become evil, which makes him more of a symbol than a character, and... I dunno, for a series with so many cool and fleshed-out characters, it seemed weird that the main villain was so one-dimensional.
But. All in all, an excellent ending, (not including the epilogue, which although I'm okay on, I'm sure people are blowing their gaskets over), and I am fulfilled enough that I feel like rereading the others, even. :) Rowling really did a really good job working in the ret-con, I think!
.....I still think Harry/Ginny is retarded, if only because his infatuation with her was so sudden in 6 and so underdeveloped, but you know what? I'm not in the fandom. So I will enjoy what will be~ :D
...Okay, so that was a bunch of commenting. XD; Anyway, yay! It's over!
