your world's about to be destroyed; there's no point getting all annoyed
It was actually.... good. XD
No, seriously, with the time crunch they were on? The rapper who did Ford and who everyone was doubting actually did a really good job----the casting was excellent overall, and the way they portrayed the Vogons was especially on-target. XDD I tried not to be overly nitpicky, since Douglas Adams wrote up to the second draft of the script, so most of the changes were probably his.
Only complaints:
- Wtf with Zaphod's heads! One of them was UNDER his other one? And his third arm was hardly used. Wtf. (Otherwise, though, he was great. XD A little too oblivious, but... XDDD )
- Trillian. Augh. SHE was completely ruined, total pansy. (She's cool, calm, and opportunistic in the books). Wtf, she doesn't freak out at all about the Earth being destroyed, and she's supposed to look exotic and somewhat arabic...? Erk.
- Speaking of Trillian, the whole thing between her and Arthur was totally overblown. And WHAT @ the random new girl that was thrown in for the sole purpose of having Zaphod end up with someone? And what about FORD, huh?! Doesn't HE get any love?
- The end was waaaayyy too happy and sappy and AS WE ALL KNOW, THE WORLD DOES NOT END UP THE WAY IT WAS. No, no, it most definitely is destroyed, you movie pansies. Sheesh.
Happy Surprises/Comments:
- I really like how they added in the part with how Ford and Arthur meet... unless I forgot about that being in one of the books. XD
- Everyone... was just characterized so WELL. (Zaphod was a little overdone, but in a good way... and if they were gonna screw up anyone, it was best it was Trillian. XD)
- The way they opened it up... XDDD The song. Pfff.
- Just... Zaphod. God. XDDDDDDDDDDDD
- THE GHENGIS KAHN GUY. HE WAS IN IT AND HE HAD A GHENGIS KAHN MOUSTACHE. <3333 (Granted--he didn't have an obvious predilection for fur caps, but you could TELL it was HIM. XDD)
- Marvin. Marvin. Ohhh, Marvin. He didn't really LOOK like the Marvin in my head... but Alan Rickman? Perfect. And... just... Marvin. <333
- I actually liked how they expanded on the whole cult of "The Great Arkleseizure," since that was one of my favorite tangents in the books. XD <3
- There was so much sexual innuendo... I can't believe it got away with a PG rating. XD
- The bit where Arthur and Slartibartfast are travelling through the factory floor of Magrathea was AMAZING. Totally awesome. And speaking of which, Slartibartfast was excellently casted as well!
- ...................................Why did they make it so goddamn GAY? No, seriously, Ford hugs Arthur way too many times for comfort, and Zaphod is always hanging on everyone and winks and Arthur and Ford jumps on Zaphod and.... I just... I sort of slammed my head into my palm and desperately held back giggles through many portions of that film. MY CHILDHOOD. OHGOD MY DESTROYED CHILDHOOD. TAINTED. TAIIINNTED. (Though it was going to happen sometime or another, I suppose... Shut up.)
Overall, it was just FUNNY and ENJOYABLE! And although most of the other people who came out of the theatre with me immediately focused in on the negative aspects and the differences from the books, I was really quite pleased. I mean, come on! You can't just focus on the bad stuff, especially when they were trying to squeeze so much into one movie. They did a really good job, overall---I thought, anyway---except for the end, which was truly lacking. Otherwise... it was really good, great even. It seems that most people who've read the books have liked it, while people who haven't don't really get a lot of the inside humor and jokes---you really have to have read the books to fully enjoy it, methinks.
In short: ........I kinda wanna see it again. :D
On another note, people came over today and we had a GetBackers marathon! X3 Justin.... reacted the way we expected him to, to say the least. And it was awesome. :D Andrew, Justin, and Court stayed over at my house last night, and the next morning, Jenny, Zac, and Emi came over and we started the marathon. Andrew sort of.... didn't watch and left, even though we invited him in multiple times. O_o; Not sure why. Midway, Emi got the bad news that her dog had died... so we consoled her to our best ability with kind words and ice cream. <3 She, of course, was picked up immediately and we continued on. Court had to leave next, due to the fact that her dad had reserved a spot for her at a Dodgers game. So then the rest of us sat there on our asses and watched the rest. Yes, about 20 episodes in total. XD (Did I mention we ordered pizza and pigged out meanwhile? Before people left?)
So yeah, we had lotsa fun. <3 Thanks to you guys who helped me clean up! The damages actually weren't too bad; now I just need to move the sleeping bags to the back and tidy up my room a bit... but it's not any worse than it usually is. XD
....I have this song on repeat now. XD But talk of GetBackers now makes me crave Awakening and Rage. Mmmm. Justin, don't forget to IM me and bug me for the songs I said I'd send you! :O
Fun times. Fun times. And as for Emi---I hope you feel better, hun! <3

I feel bad for the fandom, is all. Imagine all the stupid people that didn't read the books that it's going to drag in. Hopefully they'll have enough courtesy to label their stuff 'movie-verse.'
Anyways. XD
