Today was kind of hectic. I didn't sleep at all last night since I wanted to make sure I got traffic school done by my due date, so I basically went to my American Music quiz from home, left class, did errands... but while I was doing these things, apparently the pipe under our shower broke and when I came back I wasn't able to take a shower (I hadn't been able to take a shower in the morning because of the clog that spawned the breakage in the first place) so I was dirty all day and had to wash my hands with wet wipes and kshdkaj. D8 LUCKILY I basically slept for most of the time that my dad was fixing the pipe, so I didn't have to deal with it too much? 8D; Of course, now my sleeping schedule is totally off and I have to gradually reign it back in again. Which is why I will sleep after this post.

Anyway.... omg, reading all those Sam apps has gotten me on a total Supernatural kick, which is wonderful since I feel I've been neglecting due fangirling for that series this last half-year or so. I am TOTALLY hankering for some good fanfiction, and since I don't really know how to navigate around that nutso fandom and it's hard to find non-Wincest fic... Does anyone have any Supernatural genfic recs? I would be very appreciative to get pointed in the right direction since right now I've resorted to writing random stuff for myself skfkajfg Winchesters <333

I love fics like that where they present "evidence" and bring the series closer to the actual world enough that it feels weirdly real. FJHskdfdsd it was really cute and bittersweet and sad and... crack_impala first of all has a gen fic rec tag and their recs are always amazing.

pdragon76 is my favourite gen fic writer ever, no lie, because her Winchesters are motherfucking Winchesters and are total men to the core, which is a nice change from a lot of fics where they cry at the drop of a pin.

Blind Spot (http://pdragon76.livejournal.com/34039.html) is specifically awesome. Her newest one, The Lee (http://pdragon76.livejournal.com/97206.html) also looks great. As for her one-shots, I adore This one (http://pdragon76.livejournal.com/37566.html), this one (http://pdragon76.livejournal.com/91132.html), and this one (http://pdragon76.livejournal.com/22299.html). Especially that last one because that scene at the beginning? Needs to happen on-screen like, right now.

Counting Tuesdays (http://forestgreens.googlepages.com/countingtuesdays) is an epic Sam-fic, and has a very interesting concept.

Plant Your Flag on the Fault Line (http://tripoli8.livejournal.com/321687.html) mixes humour and angst well and I just really love the dialogue between the two of them.

Of Bastard Saints (http://nilchance.livejournal.com/205229.html) is a classic. Set in S1, and it has an awesome John. I love John in this one. And the John-Sam interactions too.

whereupon mostly writes Wincest, but she does have one gen fic (http://whereupon.livejournal.com/44069.html#cutid1) and almost all of her fics are casefiles. I love her writing style because so much goes unsaid between the boys which is exactly the way it should be. I like her Winchesters for the kinda the same reason I like pdragon76's.

(If you do end up foraying into Wincest somewhere down the line I eventually did since there's so much good fic out there that includes Wincest, Undertow (http://whereupon.livejournal.com/51414.html) by the same author is both brutal and wonderful.)

oxoniensis writes the best Ruby I've ever seen, I think her best stories are Sam/Ruby. This one (http://oxoniensis.livejournal.com/381694.html) is my favourite. It's het, obv. |D;

Also, I know you asked for gen fic, but if you happen to be up for it, Falling Through (http://community.livejournal.com/libraryofsol/81035.html) has a brilliant concept and it's just so cool and a;kldjfs *flails* And the Wincest doesn't actually show up till the end and it works quite well for the story here, too, so IDK IF YOU WANT. IT IS A GOOD STORY.

Oh and this one (http://bellatemple.livejournal.com/249342.html) has stick-figure Dean. I am not kidding. It is pure crack, but it is also really adorable mostly because of the pictures.

Oh and (LAST THING I SWEAR) spnnewsletter, which compiles EVERYTHING SPN in one place, is mainly how I navigate around the fandom. It has a "gen" heading for its list of fic so if you want to find new fic without relying on recs all the time, but also wish to avoid the Wincest, you can do it that way. It also links to recs posts, if there are any, so you can find fic through that, as well. It doesn't have all of the fics written since it's kind of impossible to catch them all, but I would say it is generally about 90% complete. :3

Dude, that is the exact thing that I am looking for – because I feel like even most of the better fic I've found basically makes them really weepy or flowery, which is kind of a downer when the concept of the fic itself is good and YEAH I'M LOOKING FOR THEM BEING THE RIDICULOUSLY MASCULINE MEN THEY ARE SO WOOOOOO now I'm getting paranoid about my own writing rioudlkafs

I still find it so ridiculous that I'm so weirded out by Wincest but at the same time SHIP PETRELLICEST LIKE A FUCKING INSANE PERSON. I dunno, it must be a difference in dynamics? I mean, it's not so much the fact that they're brothers that turns me off as their relationship – like, if I read a fic where, say, Meg!Sam started uh DOING THINGS to Dean and Dean was like OH NO NO, I wouldn't have any problem reading it I would actually like it VERY MUCH uh... you... didn't hear that, but if I was reading the same fic and Dean started reciprocating because of secret romantic love for Sam, I'd get all squicked. SOMEHOW I FIND NON-CON OKAY BUT NOT THE OTHER STUFF WTF, SELF.

LOL the weepy/flowery thing turns me off so much ahhh and it's not just in the fics of fandom, either, it seems a chunk of viewers are under the delusion that these guys truly are flowery. *dies* Like, I remember there was a portion that went up in arms the last time Dean punched Sam. I was so confused, I was all, "But they are Winchesters a;ldfkjsa besides it was hot" but anyway. I am sure you are fine. x)

And I don't like romantic Wincest either, the whole "they fall in love" thing drives me insaaaaane mainly because idk, I feel like they already love each other as it is and they don't exactly need to fall into bed together to make this clear. I am, however, attracted to fics where they just fuck each other for various screwed up reasons and the sex is more angryneedyhot than loveydovey. I AM PRETTY OKAY WITH NON-CON TOO. *right there with you* Plus, admittedly, on a purely physical level, they do look good together. :|
