Erin (La Cidiana)

Sooo, last night was Halloween. I was Rufus, Court was Reno, and Emi was Elena. Zac was Elendira. A good one, too. Rofl. <3 Andrew didn't even find out 'till later that his "female" character was supposed to be a transvestite. XD XD XD

Anyway! My costume was cool, but incredibly hot. T_T; And I got a pizza sauce stain on the cuff. Eewwww. I'm gonna go put some stain remover on that tomorrow...

(New icon, btw. <3 Again. Even though I'll have to re-upload all my other ones once I get a proper paid account. ;_;)

Anyway, here's the big story:

I was kinda late to AP Art due to being dead tired from running around last night and due to it being freaking hot. And I have to walk all the way to that class from PE. In the Greek. Augh.

Anyway, I walk in and there's this guy doing a presentation. I sit down, and as I listen, I realize he's talking about a comic book studio that he works for. Omgwtf. (Apparently, they were commissioned by D.C. to take back sales from Marvel, and now that they've succeeded with D.C., Marvel has hired them back to get back sales from D.C. XD XD XD) He's talking about how they want people to do internships for them, (read: slave work), and how they'll be training people who want to make a commitment to do so and so forth. When someone asked how old you have to be, he responded that they were looking for talent, and that age didn't necessarily matter. Okay. He also said that they'll take a look at your stuff and see if they would like to train you to do inking, backgrounds, digital work, etc, and advise you on such matters, and that you should only do it if you're serious about it. (Of course, Ms. Bouse is looking to me and nodding this entire time. Rofl.)

Anyway, Ms. Bouse asks him afterwards if he'd like to look at portfolios, since she knew that some people were really interested, (by some people, she meant "Erin"). So I let Maxine go first as the guinea pig, and she didn't have much stuff, but the guy didn't seem too caustic either, and due to a long, random-ass story about maybe being commissioned to do some random "anime superhero tomboy" picture for Grey's Anatomy, I happened to have my portfolio. Score.

Soooo, I sit down and start showing him my stuff. He seemed pretty impressed by the fact that I actually do comics myself and have a main focus, and that I've been attempting backgrounds and perspectives. I told him which characters were other people's, which were mine, and how I'm actually very proficient with Photoshop and computer software even though it's not reflected in my artwork itself. I also told him how I was more comfortable with ink than with pencil, and how I love creating stories and planning out plots, and how I've gotten advanced enough in English that I want to mesh that skill with something else. (He asked what grade I got in English, and I told him I got a 5 on the English AP. That was... good.) I also told him that I'm thinking of applying to CalArts as my first choice, but I'm not sure that, even if I get in, I'm at the skill level that I'd like to be when I move on to more advanced figure manipulation and whatnot.

I was kind of shocked when, only halfway through my portfolio, he sort of stops me and asks me what my schedule was like. (HOLY SHIT.) Apparently, they're located reeallly close by, which is always a plus, and they're really flexible in terms of working with your school and homework schedule, and how intense you want your commitment to be. He said that if I chose to go through with it, I'd probably start with, (shitwork I'd actually like), inking and doing backgrounds and coloring and such.

So, I'm of course, like, all O___O UH, YEAH, I'M INTERESTED, and he shows me their whole book of sample work and illustration and... guh. Such cool stuff. EVEN A DEVIL MAY CRY ILLUSTRATION which I thought I was hallucinating about, but then I asked if I could turn back a page, and he said "sure!" and I was like ".....:D"

And Batman, Nancy! BATMAN. <3333

Anyway, he gave me a business card to call the director over at the studio with, and put down his name and number and said to mention that I'd talked to him. So, like... if I look around there and it seems like something I'd like to commit to... wow. This is totally an opportunity that I don't want to miss out on. They want to train me and enslave me and then, possibly, employ me?! MY GOD.

I am so fucking psyched.
