Funny story: my mom wanted to see the Heroes premiere from my recording on the DVR, but we ended up sitting down to watch it on the night that my dad was trying to get her ready to leave for one of their timeshares that they're spending a few days at. My dad got all miffed that she wasn't packing yet, and my mom got all pouty and was like "CRAIG, CAN I JUST FINISH THIS FIRST???"

Now they're going to be swinging by here to pick me up and bring me up there for a night, and my mom wants to get here early so she can watch the second half of the premiere with me. Pfffffffffft. Also watched it with Max and we had this exchange:

Saw Iron Man for a second time yesterday after FULLY SURPRISING Andrew for his birthday with Court and Sabrina having come down. <3 Jenny made delicious cake and we all had an awesome time. 8D

For the linguistic anthropology paper, I know I definitely want to focus on internet language in regards to more literate social networking sites like LJ, (like, how English gets butchered on this side of the internet for the sake of expressiveness and satire rather than shorthand practicality) among other things, but um... I... need help fleshing out that idea into something I can write about. I was wondering if I include something about online RP and how we writers need to discern between OOC cues and IC cues, as well as changes in writing styles, since during the course of my research I read this pretty interesting anthro article on the use of "I" in reference to someone's character in tabletop roleplay and sci-fi convention stuff.

ANYWAY. ANY IDEAS? SHOOT 'EM AT ME; I NEED THEM. ...please. .__. The good thing about studying the internet is that I have a wealth of archived examples at my fingertips, but the downside is that I can easily make myself look like an idiot if my rambly essay sounds like... well, the ramblings of a self-indulgent internet retard. The project is pretty free in terms of subject matter so long as we have research and evidence and write in an ethnographic article format, so um... yes.

Okay, this absolutely amazes me: Usually, when I read older stuff of mine, even if it's only a couple months old, I cringe and flail and gripe to myself about how bad it is, etc. etc. I know half of it is being your own worst critic, but yeah.

BUT THIS. THIS. I posted it up on 5/05/05, and when I wrote it, I loved it. When I proofread it, I loved it. It's been three years now, and every single fucking time I've reread it, I've still loved it. I keep on figuring a day will come when I'll reread it and cringe and get not-proud like with all of my other old stuff, but THAT DAY HAS NEVER COME. I think I can honestly say it's my favorite fanfic I've ever written. I mean, sure, it's got some old markers of juvenile-ness, like too much cussing and unncessary bolding, but overall... it still makes me LOL. In a good way. <3

I love it when I can let myself be proud of something. :D It's a wonderful feeling and I don't allow it as often as I should.

...And speaking of which, I have no idea what the fuck I'm going to do when MGS4 comes out. If I can't get my hands on a PS3, I might have to take desperate measures. Like hiding under a rock in a dark, dark cave and never making human contact EVER AGAIN.

COURT AND I HAVE SECRETLY AND COVERTLY TAKEN UP THE WINCHESTERS. Court was talking about wanting to play Sam somewhere, so she set her eyes on discedo, which I don't know too much about except for what's on the FAQ, but... I told her if she apped Sam, I'd app Dean, to which she responded that "WELL I WAS SAYING I'D APP SAM UNDER THE ASSUMPTION YOU WOULD." So um we decided once we'd almost finished with apps, we'd do that.

So we did and we just got accepted. 8D;;; Yaaaay. I dunno what will come of it (hopefully I'll keep up and get adjusted to something other than damned?) but it'll be kinda nice to be in an RP as just a player. (SO NOT USED TO LOG FORMAT NOWADAYS, THOUGH. D8)

In other news, watched the newest episodes of Supernatural with Max last night! \o/ On the way to my house, we decided we wanted Red Mango (this Pinkberry's ripoff near my house, but hey, if it's near my house...) and so we went. We ordered--one medium for her, and three smalls for me and my family--and as she was ordering, the machine refused to take her debit card. Didn't take her credit card either. I was kinda like "wtf?" since I was pretty sure she had a bunch of money in her account from her last job, but I was like "Hey, Max, it's cool, I'll cover you." So I go up to the cashier and give them my Amex card, and IT DOESN'T WORK EITHER. So at that point, the staff people realized it was an issue with their machine rather than an issue with our cards, so they were like "we can only take cash right now..." and Max and I were like "we only have like... seven bucks. D:" So they were like "...OKAY, YOU CAN JUST TAKE THEM." And we were like "WHAT REALLY???"

So we got 17 bucks worth of desserts. For free.

Truly SWEET.

Anyway, we watched the Spn episodes (last week's and this week's), and they were of course awesome! We then watched Profit, which Max wtfed at and wanted to watch more of. So we did. And then I took her home.

Also, a couple of days ago, Jenny and I went to Andrew's (who'd just gotten his Instrument Rating, yay!) and we played Simpsons Monopoly. It was extremely fun and I won. 8D

Been kind of lively lately with.... life! Or something.

My dad is leaving his job as director of Environmental and Public Works in the middle of March, which is really weird considering he's been working for the City of Santa Monica for 25 years. He's been having big and small parties thrown for him by his bosses/co-workers/employees these past couple of weeks, the last of which was a big bash at this shi-shi restaurant where he got some really nice gifts and really nice speeches. To give some perspective: my dad's a pretty big environmentalist and has spent most of those 25 years working to get the city to change things to help lessen its environmental impact on the ocean and air. And though, as one of the speakers jokingly pointed out, he drives a very gas-efficient Ford Mustang and plays the very environmental sport of golf, he really has worked long and hard to achieve that goal, and even now, is moving to a new job with an environmentalist, non-profit organization. The downside is he's going to have to commute to Irvine, but his new employers are paying him extra to cover the cost of a natural gas car that he can use to breeze through the car pool lane (hopefully). In any case, I'm proud of him, though it's still weird he won't be working there anymore.

Whatever, I'm just going to have my mom drop me off in the morning from now on and take the bus back.

BUT HAPPIER THINGS: On the video game front, I've been playing lots of Pokémon and I beat the Elite Four and the Champion on my first try! YAAAAY! Time for the Pal Park and filling up the National Dex, which is.... tough considering I don't have any GBA Pokémon games. But my brother does. So I guess I'll steal that.

About halfway to the mall, I decided to sit down on the sidewalk and untense a little, since I was still kinda messed up, and then, from behind the gate-thing I was sitting by, this cat comes over to me and meows and meows at me to pet him, totally cheering me up. It was the best thing ever, and this other cat came out too, though he kinda stayed back and wasn't as friendly. During the course of my petting the cat and giving him attention, my mom called and apologized and we made up, so everything was all good, and at that point, I decided to look at the cat's collar and find out the name of the adorable, wonderful, attention-seeking kitty that had brightened up my day and made me feel okay again.

And what do I see?

...No, I am not joking. I of course concluded that the other, less-friendly cat must have been named "Natey," but I suppose I'll never know. :(

In any case, I continued to the mall and got pizza and See's candy. And then my mom picked me up and we got groceries and on the way home, I got to drive my dad's Mustang convertible, a Mustang convertible that I may ACTUALLY END UP GETTING. KAJSKDD

And I am slowly becoming a scary beast at Guitar Hero. Beat Slash on Expert and I'm at the second-to-last bracket on GHIII now, all of whose songs are... impossible. D: I do believe I will develop carpel tunnel and tendonitis at this rate, nngghhh WHY DO I DO THIS TO MYSELF.
